BORACAY — Aklan police director Senior Supt. Benigno Durana Jr. said closed-circuit television
system (CCTV) will be installed in strategic locations augmented by police working dogs to
guarantee the security in the island resort.
Durana said the cameras are part of security preparations that would monitor the movements of
tourists and residents 24 hours a day in crime-prone areas.
"The Philippine National Police (PNP) is determined to install digital cameras in strategic places
which are proven helpful in solving crimes in urbanized cities," he added.
Durana said, "the support of the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) and resort owners would
enhance the security measures in the island by installing CCTVs."
PNP Director General Avelino Razon has put up 56 CCTVs in Metro Manila including Quiapo and Baclaran as an effective tool in fighting criminality and terrorism.
The cameras, Razon said, would help easily identify criminals and track down street crime
offenders.
Durana also stressed the importance of cameras and police working dogs in a no-nonsense campaign of PNP in keeping the island safe.
"The police dogs would assist in beat patrols in our serious campaign against criminality and to strengthen security measures in the prime tourist destination," he added.
The Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office (BSTPO), a 66-special full-complement police force, is manned by Senior Insp. Auxilio Dador to secure one of the world’s best beaches from lawless elements augmented by Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Army operating in the island.
About 65 percent of the visitors in the renowned Boracay Island are Koreans. Tourists, who went to Boracay Island last year, registered 567,421, of which 184,363 were foreigners and 351,537
domestic.
